Fatima Moreira de Melo was born on July 4, 1978 in Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland. She was raised as a competitive young person, spending time on her education as well as sports like field hockey. And it was as a field hockey player that she rose to the top of her game, playing on the Dutch national team as a striker, on the Dutch team that became the world champions at the 2006 Women’s Hockey World Cup, and as an Olympic gold medalist with the Dutch national team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. One of the highest honors she received as part of her sports career was being named Rotterdam Sportswoman of the Year in 2006. Striving to excel at any given opportunity, Fatima also studied law, obtaining a Masters Degree in 2006, and worked on television programs on local and national channels in Europe, even appearing as the face of Rabobank in Dutch television advertisements. She also pursued an interest in a career as a singer, something at which she continues to find success. Poker also caught Fatima’s eye, as she found through casual play that she had a knack for the game, one that also fed her competitive spirit. She became a member of Team PokerStars Pro for the Netherlands team, which enabled her to travel the world playing live poker tournaments in addition to the online games. In less than one year on the live circuit, she has accumulated more than $100K in earnings, with several final tables on her resume, including the Master Classics of Poker Main Event, EPT Snowfest preliminary event, and EPT Monte Carlo preliminary tournament.
